1. Practice Spar – Light contact (mock blows) without serious wounds or death blows with opening posts, usually three rounds and a closing or final defensive post (FDP) with a time limit of ten (10) minutes.
2. Tournament Sporting Spar – Similar to practice spars, light in contact no serious wounds or death blows. Fought under tournament rules with opening posts, three to five combat rounds and a FDP. The time limit is twelve (12) minutes per post unless otherwise agreed.
3. Honor Spars (aka… Canjellne) – Utilized for settling disputes and matters of honor for various reasons (insults, tempers, sword rights, property, ranking or perhaps simply bragging rights). Stakes will be set in advance and agreed upon by both combatants and the winner is awarded all and fought under tournament rules (see above). Serious wounds may be inflicted here if agreed but deathblows are not required. Still, this is a serious fight where crippling, maiming, grave injury and even death may occur depending upon the agreement. Honor spars will be judged by a panel of three Judges, agreed upon by the combatants before the spar, and at least one must be a Sizzling Chat judge. However, one judge is acceptable if both combatants agree.
4. Death Spars – These are not encouraged as this is a death match where combatants (both) will risk their lives and what they own (Free Companions, slaves, gold, silver, etc…). The loser dies (and possibly the winner) and shall honor His death; being buried in the Cities of Dust, along with any titles and positions formerly held by His character. An entirely new character must be created to return to Gor. No property will exchange hands nor shall any action that could affect another’s role-play be made until a final judgment is rendered.
Death Spars will have a minimum time limit of twelve (12) minutes and up to fifteen (15) minutes per post, if agreed upon by the combatants. There will be a minimum of five (5) posts up to a maximum of eight (8) posts. Death spares will be judged by a panel of three judges: One judge will be selected by and agreed upon by each combatant, and one judge will be a neutral official Sizzling Chat judge agreed upon by the combatants or appointed by Sizzling Chat.
5. Open Combat – Spontaneous combat between two (2), possibly more, warriors that may be precipitated by a raid, an Assassin’s attack or some other reason. Open combat (OC) fights rest under the jurisdiction of the room where the (OC) was fought unless other rules are agreed to by the combatants and will be judged by the Home’s leader, or his second if he chooses and has previously appointed one.
